After completing vocals for the single Faith, things were moved to Sarm West’s Studio 2 with it’s SSL 4048 E Console. The Lexicon 224 provided the high frequency ‘pings’ to the vocals. The AMS DMX 15-80 was set to a 30ms delay on the left, and 45ms delay on the right, with some pitch change added on some tracks. For most of the vocals on the album, a digital delay was used. Ironically George Michael insisted the lead vocal of the single Faith should be dry. Throughout the album, there is liberal use of the Lexicon 224 reverb, as well as the two big AMS units of the 1980s, the RMX 16 digital reverb and the DMX 15-80 digital delay. Most of the keyboard sounds were provided by a Roland Juno 106 or a Yamaha DX7, both of which were very popular at that time, as well as a Greengate DS3 sampler. The recording of Faith took place at Puk Studio’s in Denmark which featured a 56 channel SSL E Series console and Mitsubishi 32 track digital recorder. The lead single of the same name was and still is a radio staple and on continuous rotation to this day.
